According to the Daily Star, Rodgers has challenged Simon Mignolet to improve his game after he continues to monitor Victor Valdes, who is a free agent.
Due to the Belgian’s performances, the Kop faithful have been on the edge of the seats more times than they would have liked since his arrival from Sunderland.
He had a difficult start to life on Merseyside which has led to him having so very nervy moments in the Reds’ defence.
And with ex-Barcelona keeper Valdes, available as a free agent, Mignolet’s position is seriously under threat.
The Anfield club are continuing to monitor Valdes’ fitness as the Spaniard, 32, recovers from a serious knee injury.
Should he make a healthy return, Liverpool are expected to offer a contract to the former World Cup winner next month.
That leaves Mignolet under pressure as his boss called for more fight.
Rodgers said: “I think Simon is a bit laid back. The key thing is to make sure you are on the front foot and aggressive.”
And after conceding from a dead ball last week in their shock defeat by Aston Villa, the Kop chief said: “We brought the nerves on ourselves at corners. We must get organised quickly.”
Liverpool fans. Do you think that Brendan Rodgers is partially at fault for not giving Simon Mignolet any real competition for his place, allowing Mignolet to be slightly relaxed in the sticks? Let us know your thoughts below.
