Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are smiling at the latest news coming from the Daily Telegraph.
This is because the publication claims that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is adamant that Steven Gerrard remains at Anfield.
As our regulars note, Gerrard has been heavily linked with a move away from the Merseyside club in recent weeks and the likes of Manchester City and New York Cosmos are said to be keen on landing the former England skipper.
However, according to the Liverpool boss, he wants Gerrard to sign a new deal with the club well before the option of potentially penning a pre-contractual agreement with a new club in January.
The Liverpool boss lavished praise on Gerrard, noting: “He will be 35 at the end of the season but he is still fresh and he still looks after himself very well.
“Technically he is a big player for us. He is the perfect sort of example for a lot of our players to learn from.”
