John Cross from Mirror Football suggests that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers faces a fight to keep hold of Daniel Agger as Barcelona prepare a £12 million bid for the Reds defender.
The Camp Nou side have reportedly turned to the Danish star after Paris Saint-Germain made it very clear that they will not sell Brazilian international Thiago Silva to the La Liga champions this summer and Roma’s Marquinhos, another target, signed for PSG yesterday.
Meanwhile Chelsea have denied all reports that they want to sell fellow Brazil star David Luiz after suggestions arose that new manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t see a long-term future for the former Benfica man with his inherited Blues side.
Barca are seeking a replacement for legendary centre back Carles Puyol who could retire after one last campaign with the Catalan club and they have outlined Agger as a possible option with the 28-year-old impressing at Anfield in recent times.
Brendan Rodgers is already facing a fight to keep his star striker Luis Suarez at the club this summer and news of interest from Spain for one of his defenders will not go down well.
The Reds have already found a ideal replacement for Jamie Carragher, who retired at the end of last season, in Manchester City’s Kolo Toure but Rodgers would hate to lose the fine ball-reader who has played more than 200 games for the Merseyside side since arriving from Brondby for £6 million in 2005.
