Sky Sports today report a series of confusing quotes from Brendan Rodgers over the future of Luis Suarez and leave most of us here in the Football Transfer Tavern scratching our heads at the mixed messages coming across from the Liverpool manager.
Suarez of course has been edging closer and closer to the exit door at Anfield for some time now and despite the club doing everything they can not only to stick up for the player when some would argue it is not deserved, they have also done everything possible to convince him to stay.
The forward however is at the stage in his career when Champions League football is a must and also wants the chance to win trophies – as one of our punters quips, quite why he is then pushing a move to Arsenal through remains to be seen!
Manager Rodgers has spoken ahead of Liverpool’s next game on their pre-season tour and noted that: “There’s been a lot of speculation over the course of the close season but the reality is that he’s a player who is very much valued at Liverpool and unless there’s any sort of offer that comes in that’s anywhere near his value, there’s nothing to consider.
“We haven’t had that.
After seeming to suggest that the player would be available at the right price, Rodgers was then asked just how much that would be and backtracked slightly noting that: “I didn’t say we would sell him! I said that every player has a value and a worth. Doesn’t mean you’ve got to sell them.”
Is Rodgers resigned to losing Suarez to Arsenal? Let us know your thoughts below.
