Armin Bacinovic has been linked with a move to England after reports in the Italian media claim Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in the Palermo star.
Chelsea’s interest has been known for a while with Liverpool keeping tabs on the 21 year old should any opportunity to sign the player arise.
Bacinovic himself has distanced himself from any speculation by saying that he is “living a dream” in serie A. “I want to stay here”, he said, “the more so next year as we will play in the Champions League. I will not change team.”
If Champions League football is what Bacinovic feels is keeping him at Palermo his reserve may be tested in the coming months as two defeats has seen the Rosanero slip eight points behind 4th place Lazio. The Slovenia international has been crucial to Palermo’s European push and has 23 appearances this season with two goals.
He made the move to Italy in August last year after a three year career with NK Maribor came to an end after Palermo knocked his former club out of the Europa League. A tough defensive midfielder, he is adept at regaining possession and initiating counter attacks. Whilst a move to the Premier League would mean a stark change in the pace of games, at 21 Bacinovic has time to prove his worth.
Any chance of a transfer looks to hinge entirely on whether Palermo secures Champions League football next season. If they fail, Chelsea and Liverpool could prove too enticing for Bacinovic if an offer is made – depending on qualification for the Champions League of course.
With Chelsea eager to inject a dose of youth into their ageing side they would seem the most obvious destination for Bacinovic with Liverpool covered in the midfield with defensive players such as Lucas and summer signing Christian Poulsen holding the fort.
