Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has reacted rather bluntly to Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Anfield last night.

Sutton reacts

The Reds came out on top against a Jose Mourinho side that were happy to camp out in their own half and pounce on the counter-attack, which led to them creating some of the best opportunities during the 90 minutes.

Mohamed Salah gave the Reds the lead through a deflected shot in the first-half but were quickly pegged back by Son Heung-Min just six minutes later. Liverpool had to wait until the 90th minute to get the winner through Roberto Firmino.

While it was a game that Jurgen Klopp's side statistically dominated, Sutton had his say in a brief six-word statement on his official Twitter account.

Mourinho bizarrely said after the full-time whistle that the better team lost the match, despite Liverpool making 200 final third passes, as opposed to Spurs' 19, at one point late in the second half (via Anfield Edition).

Transfer Tavern Verdict

The better team most certainly won the match in what was a huge game for both teams.

While both managers implementing different strategies towards the game, it made for a fascinating encounter, in which the hosts rightfully came out on top.

Sutton was of course hinting at Mourinho's unattractive playing style, whereas Liverpool's attacking play was rewarded with a winning goal. For Spurs fans though, they surely will not care if Mourinho annoys pundits and rivals alike but stays in the title race.
