Liverpool close in on second summer arrival

aspas.jpgLiverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking more than a little pleased with themselves at the news in the Daily Mail that their club have agreed a fee with Celta Vigo for one of their star players.

Iago Aspas seems to be on his way to Anfield after the sides came to an agreement over a £6 million transfer fee that will see the highly rated player join Brendan Rodgers’ men.

It had been thought that Swansea City and indeed Michael Laudrup were leading the chase for the player and given the Dane’s Spanish connections that comes as little shock. Now however it seems that the club are set to miss out with Aspas set to fly in and discuss personal terms with Liverpool.

At 25-years-old the forward has been a revelation in his first season in La Liga and has managed to net 12 goals after becoming one of the stars of the show and a major reason why the Balaidos-based side got promoted in the first place. Valencia had also been sniffing around Aspas but it is Liverpool who have made the first move and look like landing the coveted player who Northern Irishman Rodgers will hope has a similar effect to Michu in his first Premier League season. Aspas will be the Reds’ second summer capture after Manchester City’s Kolo Toure was signed this week.

Will Iago Aspas cut it at Anfield or is he another Fabio Borini? Let us know your thoughts below.
