Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been waiting patiently for news of their next transfer activity this summer following the underwhelming arrival of Kolo Toure and the Liverpool Echo today reports that the club are close to confirming the £7.7 million signing of Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas while talks to bring Sporting Lisbon’s Tiago Ilori to Anfield are understood to have been productive.
It’s been long thought in the tavern that the Reds would sign Aspas this summer and it was just a case of getting the transfer signed off once personal terms had been agreed with the versatile frontman.
The Echo today confirms that the two parties have reached a successful conclusion and now the 25-year-old, who netted 12 times in 35 appearances for the Spanish side, will fly to England in order to undertake a medical before the deal is complete.
Negotiations with Sporting are close to completion as Rodgers looks sign young English-born Portuguese youth international centre back Ilori after the club agreed a fee of around £3 million for the 20-year-old defender.
London-born Ilori has established himself as a key player in the Portuguese side and the 6 ft 3 in defender marks a sound investment for the Reds who are seeking reinforcements in defence after the retirement of club legend Jamie Carragher.
Will Liverpool get both both players signed up? Rate this rumour below.
