Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t quite gotten over Wednesday night’s defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League final but it appears their club is keen to push on with their summer business.
The Guardian states Liverpool are close to landing goalkeeper Loris Karius from Jurgen Klopp’s former side Mainz, with the Reds ready to activate the German’s release clause and bring him into Anfield as a replacement for Simon Mignolet.
Despite being handed a new five-year deal earlier this season, Mignolet’s future within the first-team remains in doubt after some questionable performances, although Klopp has faith in the Belgian and sees Karius as the ideal man to provide competition to his current stopper.
Liverpool’s deal for the 22-year-old is believed to be for a figure of £4.7m, with talks between the two clubs progressing significantly during the past week.
Our landlord has been impressed by what he has seen with Karius and believes he will be an excellent player for Klopp’s men.
Will Karius be number 1 at Anfield next season? Let us know in the comments below!
