Once we told Liverpool fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern they had signed Toure, there were more than a couple of happy faces. Once we showed them the article in the Daily Mail however and clarified it was Kolo and not Yaya, the smiles did fade somewhat.
Kolo Toure is what can now be described as a veteran Premier League defender having been at the peak of his career during Arsenal’s spell of winning trophies all those moons ago and during his time at Manchester City has become somewhat of a fringe player being involved in a ‘diet pills’ scandal and subsequent suspension.
Now Liverpool have moved to sign the player and given they need experience at the heart of their defence after the retirement of Jamie Carragher this may prove to be a masterstroke from Brendan Rodgers, with Toure still feeling he has it in him to play at the highest level. Toure has signed a two year deal with the side and has even agreed to take a pay cut in his former £90,000 per week wages to push the move through.
Liverpool meanwhile are still waiting on the future of star forward Luis Suarez and also Martin Skrtel who has again been vague about where his future lies.
Is the signing of Toure a good or bad one for Liverpool? Let us know your thoughts below.
