For the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern, the festive period could be the defining section of their season. The Reds appear to finally be getting some consistency under their belt, with a few solid wins coming over the last few weeks. If they can continue that fine form through to the new year, then Jurgen Klopp’s men could be in a very good position come January.
For that to happen, though, they’ll need all the help that they can get, and according to Jurgen Klopp, they could yet get an unexpected boost over the next few weeks. Klopp has revealed, via Ben Dinnery on Twitter, that defender Joel Matip could feature during the Christmas period having stepped up his recovery from an injury this week.

Matip’s status has been uncertain in recent weeks, and his absence has been duly noted by the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern. He’s been injured, but with little word on his return time, the fans in the pub have been holding their breath.
With this news, though, things at Anfield are quickly looking rosier. Liverpool are lacking depth at the back, and Matip has arguably been the standout defender under Klopp this season for much of the campaign.
Matip wasn’t at his best prior to his injury, but when he returns Klopp will be hoping that he will be back to his best form given that he will be fully rested.
He’s been one of Liverpool’s most important defenders since he moved to Anfield, and so a fully-fit, in-form Matip will be crucial for Klopp heading into the new year.
