The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been impressed with the rise in form of Emre Can this season. The German has often been a bit-part player at Anfield, but he has really impressed since Jurgen Klopp moved to Anfield.
Providing class, composure and technique through the middle of the park, Can has become a crucial part of a midfielder that contains so much quality, and the German has often stood out amongst the likes of Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson.
His future, then, is a topic of real debate in the pub. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and as of yet, the Reds appear no closer to tieing him down than they were a year ago.
It’s an issue of real concern for our resident Reds, and so a recent report from Calcio Mercato is unlikely to make things any better. According to Calcio Mercato, it is looking ‘increasingly likely’ that Can will be a Juventus player come summertime, with an offer already on the table from the Italian giants. Significantly, he’s now able to sign on with another club, as per his impending contract expiry.
Seemingly, then, Liverpool’s chances of securing his future are looking very unlikely. Previously, Sky Sports had reported that contract talks between the Reds and Can were forthcoming – but they appear unlikely to have much of an impact.
Juventus, instead, have moved quickly to try and secure his future – and they look likely to win the race.
Rated at £25.2 million by Transfer Markt, Can would be able to leave on a free this summer – making this a blow on more than one level for Liverpool.
It would be a huge loss for Liverpool if Can was to swap Merseyside for Turin.
He’s already made 18 Premier League starts this season, and he’s only been growing in significance over the last few weeks.
Undoubtedly, he’d be a great fit at Juventus – but it would be a seismic task for Liverpool to replace him. That said, it’s tough to see him staying at present.
