Liverpool supporters are rather enjoying life in the Football Transfer Tavern right now.
Their side are joint top in Premier League and things are looking up at Anfield with the deadly partnership of Sturridge and Suarez – or ‘SAS’ as they are now affectionately regarded – thriving in Brendan Rodgers’ attack.
However the latest reports from Mirror Football have caused some concern as the paper suggests that Liverpool are ready to sell Luis Suarez during the January transfer window and are already planning for life without the Uruguayan international.
The highly controversial striker is valued at around £50 million by the Reds and he had previously tried to force a transfer away from Anfield before his current side told him he could not leave
Suarez has scored three goals in his three appearances since returning from his ten-match ban after biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season and he is reportedly determined to test the Reds resolve when the transfer window opens in January.
The 26-year-old has now reportedly told friends that he still wants to leave Anfield to join a club that will be able to challenge for major honours and ideally one in the Champions League.
It seems likely that Arsenal will return with another bid close to the £50 million asking price, but it is thought that Suarez wants to secure a move to Real Madrid instead.
Talks had recently turned to extending the former Ajax striker’s contract at Anfield although his current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2016.
But now senior figures at Anfield are growing worried that they could face another battle to keep hold of Suarez in January and are even looking for possible replacements should a side come in with a bid of around £50 million.
Would Liverpool be crazy to sell Suarez with a possible title challenge in the offing? Let us know your thoughts below.
