The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been disappointed with the form of Daniel Sturridge over the last few years. When he first moved to Anfield under Brendan Rodgers, he looked like a star in the making. Clearly desperate to prove a point to Chelsea, the Englishman became one of Europe’s best forwards, and alongside Luis Suarez, he delivered some of the most lethal forward play that the Premier League had ever seen.
However, since then, it has all been downhill for him. Particularly under Jurgen Klopp, he has struggled for fitness, form and game time, and now it appears as though the clock is running out on his time at Anfield.
According to the Daily Mail, Daniel Sturridge won’t be leaving the club in January, but the same cannot be said for him at the end of the season. The Daily Mail report that the Reds could listen to offers for him next summer, with Jurgen Klopp said to be rating him at £30 million.
Of course, a fine return to form could see this change, but if his current run continues, it seems likely that a departure will be sounded out by Liverpool.
He has scored just 2 Premier League goals so far this season, with just 5 starts coming along the way. He’s clearly second-choice at Anfield, and that won’t be changing unless his form does first.
It’s been a disappointing fall from grace for Sturridge.
All is not lost for Sturridge. On current form, he will likely be sold, but if he starts scoring again, anything could happen.
That being said, he’s looked poor for a while now, and so there is no guarantee that he’ll ever get back to his best.
