Liverpool could turn to £31.5m-rated attacker in January as Klopp seeks further reinforcement

With Philippe Coutinho now a Barcelona player, the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned that their side could lack attacking quality in the second-half of the season. Fortunately, according to Transfer Market Web, Jurgen Klopp is a man with a plan.

Transfer Market Web is reporting that Liverpool have lined up PSG midfielder Julian Draxler as a potential replacement for Coutinho if they fail to land Thomas Lemar this month. They note that Draxler could leave his club this month, having failed to hit the ground running in Paris, potentially opening the door for Liverpool to make their move.

Draxler has had a tough time at PSG since moving to the club from Wolfsburg, owing to the vast strength in depth on display at the Ligue 1 club. With Neymar and Kylian Mbappe moving to Paris over the summer, Draxler has found himself further down the pecking order.

He has made 10 Ligue 1 starts so far this term, highlighting his status as a rotational player at the Parc des Princes.

That being said, his relative lack of game time can’t really be put down to his lack of talent. The German is one of Europe’s finest attacking midfielders, offering driving runs, fantastic technique and excellent skill with the ball at his feet. Indeed, he’s pretty similar to Coutinho in that sense, and so if Liverpool are looking for a game-changing, creative, attacking midfielder – they would struggle to do better than Draxler.

Landlord’s Verdict

According to Transfer Markt, Draxler is rated at around the £31.5 million mark, meaning that he would be a pretty costly signing for Liverpool. However, that being said, in terms of quality he’d be worth every penny.

At 24-years-old, he’s only going to get better, particularly if he is afforded regular game time, and so Klopp would be wise to pounce.
