Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern hoping for a quick resolution to the future of one of their cult heroes will have to wait a while longer, as the player himself stated he’s in no rush to get things sorted.
The Liverpool Echo quotes Welsh international Joe Allen as confirming there is no further news regarding a contract extension at Anfield, as the midfielder enters the final 12 months of his current deal.
“I can’t say there have been any changes on that. The manager has said that between now and the end of the season it’s not the right time to talk about those things. I think that works out well for everyone.”
The 26-year-old, like the rest of the Reds squad, is desperate to play in the Europa League final against Sevilla next week, where Liverpool have the chance of returning to Champions League competition next season, potentially as the fifth English side in the tournament.
However, it’s going to take some time for the long-term future of Allen to be decided but our landlord reckons Jurgen Klopp will hand the player a fresh deal.
