The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still nursing killer hangover’s after drowning their sorrows following Thursday’s 1-0 reverse to Villarreal in the Europa League.
With the second leg still to come at Anfield, Liverpool do have a chance to overturn the single goal deficit and if they do the supporters will be nursing sore head’s for very different reasons.
One man who didn’t feature in the Europa League was defender Jon Flanagan who is not eligible for the competition, having been out injured when the initial squad was selected.
The 23-year-old hasn’t played for some time for the Reds and boss Jurgen Klopp has spoke out in today’s Liverpool Echo over the defender’s absence.
The German boss said: “Flanno’s absence is not too easy to explain.
“He cannot train all the time and when you are out injured for so long it is hard to build a fitness base.
“If we want to help him we need to work him on his physical resistance so that he is ready for more than one game, and that he doesn’t need three to four days to recover afterwards.”
Flanagan is likely to be fit and ready for next season but for now it looks as though he will continue to play a peripheral role in the side between now and the end of the season.
Liverpool fans, will Flanagan be first choice next season? Should he be? Do you rate the defender?
