Liverpool fans are looking conflicted here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Mirror claim they could well be the last team standing in the race for Danny Ings.
The Burnley forward has been impressive in his first season in the top flight of English football and is available on a free in the summer – leading to a fair bit of interest in him, with Real Sociedad boss David Moyes leading that pack.
However in news that will please Brendan Rodgers, Ings, 22, is set to turn down a potential move to La Liga in order to join the Reds.
As one of our regulars notes from over by the pool table, we think that Liverpool are in dire need of a forward but signing Ings could well just be a repeat of the Rickie Lambert situation – and when players like Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain have made it clear they could be prized away from their current clubs, we cannot understand why Rodgers is once again scraping the bottom of the barrel.
After all, if you want to be a Champions League club, you need to buy Champions League level players!
Liverpool fans. Do you want Ings or should you be going after a forward that is proven at the highest level like Gonzalo Higuain? Let us know your thoughts below.
