There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro claim Liverpool could well be set to snatch Wigan Athletic’s Arouna Kone from under Everton’s nose.
New Everton boss Roberto Martinez is a big fan of the player who he used to manage of course at the Latics and knows very well. Now it seems that he is set to try and lure the player to Goodison Park despite the interest from local rivals Liverpool.
Brendan Rodgers men are of course looking for a centre forward to chip in with the goals and given the fact Ivorian international Kone could well be a steal this summer, the Northern Irishman is keen on landing him. The £6.5 million release clause for the player would be within both Everton and Liverpool’s budget whilst still allowing them to buy other players during the summer transfer window.
The powerful centre forward has managed to net 11 goals in 33 games for the relegated Latics and would be looking to make a move back to the Premier League given that he is in the prime of his career and a link up with the manager who bought the best out in him would not be out of the question and is something that Martinez feels may give him the edge in this particular transfer pursuit.
