Football Transfer Tavern’s favourite Asian superstar Keisuke Honda could be on his way to the Premier League if Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers gets his way according to Metro.
Honda had looked set to sign a contract extension with Russian club CSKA Moscow last month but the player and the club have now ended negotiations and the Japanese striker will move on for free in the summer.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is allowed to speak with the 26-year-old now as he will be a free agent in four months time and the Merseyside club are hoping to tie up a pre-contract agreement as soon as possible.
One of Asia’s greatest ever players, Honda set alight the World Cup in South Africa back in 2010 and has thrived in European football ever since.
Honda’s versatility at being able to play across the front line has impressed Rodgers and his link up play with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho as well as Daniel Sturridge could be a sight to behold.
Liverpool would not have to pay CSKA any fee and so it would be seen as a real coup for the club who have been criticised for overspending in recent seasons.
CSKA director Roman Babaev said: “We tried to extend his contract, but we can’t force him.
“It is up to him what happens next.”
