Interesting reports have reached the Football Transfer Tavern this morning with Jamie Sanderson from Metro suggesting that Liverpool have turned their attentions to Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri.
Brendan Rodgers has already missed out on top summer transfer target Henrikh Mkhitaryan who has joined German side Borussia Dortmund after rejecting advances from Anfield.
The former Swansea City boss is now monitoring the status of Bayern’s 21-year-old star with a view to a possible bargain summer swoop.
Bayern have recruited Dortmund’s Mario Gotze which will limit first team opportunities for the Switzerland international who only moved to the Allianz Arena from FC Basel last summer.
Shaqiri, who can play behind the striker or at left back, will meet with new boss Pep Guardiola next week but it is likely that the ex-Barcelona manager will recommend for the youngster to find a new club if he wants regular football, even if that is through a short-term loan move.
Liverpool are the frontrunners for any transfer and would be able to offer the player a first team berth in Rodgers’ exciting young side although they favour a permanent deal of around £20 million.
Will the Reds step up the chase for the Bayern man? Let us know your thoughts below.
