There is some drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claim from the Daily Mirror who note that Liverpool could well be after Spurs target Roberto Soldado.
The Spanish International has been on the radar of Andre Villas Boas for some time now and after seeing various other targets such as Christian Benteke slip through his fingers this summer, the manager was determined to land the Valencia player – especially given the rumours surrounding Gareth Bale and his future at the club. Now Brendan Rodgers has come into the race for the forward after realising that he may lose Luis Suarez and being fully aware that another forward is needed to keep the club pushing forward to those Champions League spots.
Valencia will not sell Soldado unless the price is right and the Spanish club are well aware that having more interest in the player means that they will be able to drive up the value for him even further. Now it seems that AVB will have to fight even harder to land his man and given Suarez has claimed he wants his future to be resolved in the space of 48 hours, that could be much sooner than the Spurs manager had thought.
Liverpool would ideally like to keep Suarez, but are realistic and know that should an even bigger bid come in for the forward, keeping someone who obviously wants to leave may do more harm than good.
