Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are always on the lookout for the next talent emerging from the Championship and one player we have had our eye on is Burnley striker Danny Ings.
Ings has netted 20 times for the Clarets this term and impressed with a brace in their recent 4-3 FA Cup defeat against Premier League outfit Southampton.
Now Matt Peters from Mail Online has arrived into the bar to claim that Liverpool are one of several Premier League clubs who are keeping tabs on the £8 million rated 21-year-old.
It’s not the first target from below the Premier League to be linked with a move to Anfield after Derby County’s Will Hughes was strongly rumoured with a transfer to the Merseyside club.
The Championship high flyers will be desperate to keep hold of their star man given their fine season so far but an offer of around £5 million could be enough to persuade them to part with his services.
The Clarets have today signed Brighton & Hove Albion’s Ashley Barnes as a potential replacement for Ings with Premier League interest mounting. Aston Villa and Newcastle United could offer competition to Brendan Rodgers’ side for the forward but a transfer to Liverpool could be highly desirable.
Ings has previously been rewarded by Gareth Southgate with a call up to the England Under-21 squad and he will be looking to increase his development with a possible switch to Anfield.
