The Daily Star never fail to disappoint us here at the Football Transfer Tavern and today they claim that Liverpool are set to make an approach for Reading keeper Alex McCarthy after the 23-year-old’s brilliant performance against them recently.
The keeper produced one of the performances of the season against Liverpool upon his injury comeback and made no less than 10 saves, prompting Brendan Rodgers to note that it was ‘arguably the best goalkeeping performance’ he has seen, which is high praise indeed coming from the Northern Irishman.
Chelsea are also considering a swoop for the keeper, yet given the club already have Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois on loan it seems that Liverpool are the more attractive option for the player who will only want to enhance his reputation, not make a big money move to sit on the bench or worse in the stands.
The keeper has his eyes set on big achievements and was in line for an England call-up before his shoulder injury in November, yet boss Nigel Adkins has claimed that the young stopper’s chance will come and the vital thing is that he keeps on playing first team football.
Will Liverpool swoop for McCarthy? Rate this rumour below.
