Liverpool have clearly got the better of Manchester United in the league standings and now the latest transfer speculation arriving in the Football Transfer Tavern suggests that they could win in the transfer stakes as well.
talkSPORT reports that Liverpool are chasing Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, a long-term target for the Old Trafford club and could move for him with a £16 million offer in the summer.
Brendan Rodgers has seen a number of targets, including William and Mohamed Salah, heading to other destinations due to their lack of Champions League football during the current season.
However things are expected to change in the summer, with the Reds in pole position to end the season with qualification for the elite European competition and the Anfield club could become a far more attractive transfer.
Now the former Boca Juniors star could be heading to Anfield as Rodgers prepares a summer bid for the 26-year-old attacking midfielder.
The Red Devils has been long time suitors for Gaitan with Sir Alex Ferguson showing serious interest in the diminutive Argentine playmaker.
However it is thought that the possibility of Champions League at Anfield could persuade him to switch to the Premier League.
