Metro have a rather interesting story for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as they claim Liverpool could well be set to turn their attentions to Tottenham target David Villa.
The Barcelona striker has been looking to leave the Camp Nou for some time now and a whole host of clubs have been showing interest in him – including Napoli who are facing up to a life without Edinson Cavani and also North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham.
It had seemed that Spurs and Andre Villas Boas were the club at the front of the race for Villa, but now Brendan Rodgers is set to hijack any such move.
Rodgers is considering a bid for the £8 million rated forward after privately accepting that Luis Suarez will depart after the Uruguayan expressed his desire to leave the club after becoming disillusioned with life in England and more specifically the media.
Villa is as we all know a top forward and despite not featuring as much as he would have liked at the Camp Nou, has still notched up a huge tally of goals and his talent is not in doubt. Rodgers would have to fight to bring the player to Anfield and is more than willing to do so.
Will Liverpool win the race for David Villa or will Tottenham defeat them? Let us know your thoughts below.
