Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been keeping a close eye on one particular saga in recent weeks, with fresh information popping up today about the club’s quest to find a replacement for their struggling stopper.
Spanish outlet Fichajes state Liverpool are eyeing a double-swoop for two La Liga stoppers, with the Reds interested in bringing Sevilla’s Sergio Rico and Real Betis’ Antonio Adan to Merseyside in a £19.8m deal.
Despite handing Mignolet a five-year deal earlier this season, the Belgian stopper is not fancied to remain first-choice at Anfield for next season- as it’s become increasingly apparent that the former Sunderland ace is not the quality goalkeeper Liverpool require.
A number of poor performances this season have raised Liverpool’s need for new recruits in this area in the summer and it’s possible more than one goalkeeper could be signed, with back-up Adam Bogdan also failing to impress this term.
Adan, 28, would provide a senior option and Liverpool would be confident of beating Sunderland and Southampton in the race for his signature, although it would be more difficult to lure Sevilla’s 22-year-old youth product Rico from the back-to-back Europa League winners.
However, the latter would be the cheaper option as he’s valued at just £7.9m compared to the £11.8m Liverpool would have to offer for Adan.
