The Football Transfer Tavern has just opened for business when news reaches us from Metro that Liverpool could launch a January bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore.
The news comes after the player’s agent admitted that he would be looking for a transfer away from the French capital.
Pastore was one of the first big name players to arrive at the Parc Des Princes when their spending spree started back in 2011 but despite impressing in his first season, he has struggled to gain first team football of late.
The 24-year-old was linked with a move away during the summer but he decided to stay in order to impress new coach Laurent Blanc but now his agent confirms that he is unhappy and will be looking to leave.
“In football there are always ups and downs,” said Marcelo Simonian.
“He has been happy there, but now is not the time for nostalgia. We will see what happens in the next few months.”
These comments are reportedly likely to come as a boost to Brendan Rodgers who has been monitoring the Argentine for months as he seeks a marquee midfield signing.
The Reds could now pay around £17 million to land PSG man and it is thought that Pastore would relish the chance to feature in the Premier League with the Anfield club increasingly confident of getting a deal completed when the transfer window opens.
