Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have smashed many glasses in anger due to the performances of their goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, so their pleased to see the club are eyeing replacements for the Belgian.
The Sun says Liverpool are set to go British as they’ve identified two targets from rival Premier League clubs, in the form of Southampton’s Fraser Forster and Stoke City’s Jack Butland.
Despite Liverpool handing Mignolet a new five-year contract earlier this season, the Merseyside outfit are looking for a new first-team goalkeeper and the performances of Forster and Butland have understandably caught their eye.
Forster, formerly of Celtic, has vast experience and has proved difficult to beat this season but Butland has the credentials to continue to develop vastly in the coming years and challenge Joe Hart for the number one England jersey.
Either of the duo could be difficult to sign however, as Southampton won’t want to lose another player to Liverpool whilst Stoke see Butland as crucial as their development- with their goal being to break into the European places.
Our landlord feels neither goalkeeper will actually move this summer, although Butland would be his preferred choice.
Liverpool fans, would either of these goalkeepers be a good replacement for Mignolet? Let us know in the comments below!
