Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an intriguing update regarding Liverpool and their pursuit of Paris-Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Romano confirms Mbappe latest
The Reds have been heavily linked with the services of the 22-year-old, with AS reporting that Jurgen Klopp’s side are in a strong position to capture him.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is believed that Mbappe has had a significant amount of his valuation cut, and it is now believed to be around £134.3m.
The World Cup winner almost instantly rose to stardom after his short stint at AS Monaco. Since his £162.1m move to the French capital in 2017, Mbappe has gone on to score 104 goals and provide 57 assists in just 143 appearances (TransferMarkt).
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Romano discussed where Mbappe currently stands as far as his Ligue 1 future is concerned, confirming that the Reds are “for sure” interested in making a move.
“He’s negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain,” he said. “President (Nasser) Al-Khelaifi, is always so optimistic, and, you know, having a lot of money makes it so easy to try (to tie Mbappe down to a new deal).”
He continued: “If Mbappe will not stay at Paris Saint-Germain, obviously, we have to keep (up with) all top clubs trying but I won’t mention like Liverpool or Barcelona, or others, or Real Madrid (because) all the top clubs will be ready to try for Mbappe.
“At the moment, they are not moving just because the priority of Mbappe is talking with Paris Saint-Germain and understanding what’s going on with them. Immediately after, they will understand, but they think that Paris Saint-Germain will make a really important bid to Mbappe and I’m told that this negotiation Paris Saint-Germain trying every way to have the new contract for Kylian Mbappe.”
When pushed on whether clubs like Liverpool and Real Madrid are really putting the feelers out there, he said: “For sure, these clubs are informed but, it is normal in football, the top clubs are informed about top players so if Mbappe will decide to leave the club, for sure.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Given the Reds’ Nike kit deal and Mbappe’s relationship with basketball icon and minority Anfield shareholder LeBron James, both could be huge factors in Mbappe’s move to Liverpool.
But the fact of the matter is that the Merseysiders have been hit in their pockets by the pandemic, which makes it unlikely that they will make a move for the Frenchman this month or even in the summer.
That being said, Romano’s information provides an interesting update on their stance, confirming that the rumours are true and the Anfield outfit are indeed in the hunt if the wonderkid decides to leave Paris and spark a transfer frenzy.
