The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are still hopeful of revisiting a move for Virgil Van Dijk in the summer transfer window.
They have made it clear that improvements could be made at the back and have identified Virgil Van Dijk as the ideal man for the job.
After missing out on the Southampton centre back in the summer window, it is likely that the Reds will once again pursue this deal when the transfer window re-opens in the new year.
However, it looks like they are now facing a major challenge for his signature.
According to a report by The Mirror, Barcelona have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Virgil Van Dijk.
The Catalan based outfit tried to bring Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho to the Nou Camp in the summer and look likely to compete with Jurgen Klopp’s side in the winter window too.
The Netherlands international, who has fourteen caps to his name, has made it clear that he wants to leave Southampton after an impressive two seasons on the south coast.
Prior to that, the towering 6ft 4in centre half represented Groningen and Celtic.
It appears that Liverpool and Barcelona will go head to head in the battle for the 26-year-old.
