Liverpool fail to land Modibo Sagnan again

Liverpool appear to have failed to bring one of their targets to Anfield this summer, in a transfer window that was largely deemed to have been a success.

Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to complete deals for Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho, however, the German manager failed to land a highly-rated defender from France.

According to a report by France Football, the Reds made a second attempt to sign Modibo Sagnan from RC Lens this summer, having initially been refused an approach last January.

The Ligue 2 outfit are keen to keep the defender on their books as they look to push for promotion although he is highly-rated by Liverpool.

The 19-year-old, can play at either left-back or centre-back, is thought to have a bright future and it remains to be seen if the Anfield outfit will make another offer in January.

Lens have helped to develop a number of talented players in the past, with the likes of Raphael Varane, William Bianda, Serge Aurier, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Thorgan Hazard, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Wylan Cyprien.

The Verdict:

Sagnan is clearly a man that Liverpool want to add to their club.

It remains to be seen if they will make another approach for the teenager when the transfer window re-opens in January, however, it is also unlikely that Lens will budge from their current stance unless something had changed.

Should he arrive at Anfield, Sagnan would be expected to play for the developmental side, where he would get the experience of playing in English football.
