Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have reluctantly returned to their game of darts this afternoon, after hearing their latest bid to land a sensational signing has also been unsuccessful.
The Daily Mail states Jurgen Klopp’s side have seen a £28m bid for Alex Teixeira rejected by Shakhtar Donetsk, which marks the second time Liverpool have failed in an approach for the Brazilian after seeing a £24.5m offer turned down last week.
Liverpool are desperately seeking attacking additions before the window slams shut next Monday and Teixeira’s tally of 22 goals in 15 games in the Ukrainian league has made him a top-target for the Reds, whilst Premier League rivals Chelsea are also keen.
However, the chances of a transfer taking place have taken a blow with the latest rejection- as Shakhtar are holding out for a figure closer to the £38m mark.
Teixeira himself has publicly made it clear that he wants to leave Ukraine, telling Globo Esporte:
‘I would like to move in this transfer window and have told them [Shakhtar] that. They have received a very good offer and they are working on a solution. But if I don’t go now then I will leave in the summer.’
Our landlord believes Liverpool will not land the player for anything less than his asking price and urged Klopp to match that figure if his interest is that severe.
Liverpool fans, would you pay £38m for Teixeira? Let us know in the comments below!
