It proved to be a day of disappointment for Liverpool supporters watching all the late deadline day action in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The Reds were left frustrated after they were unable to secure Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, despite reports suggesting that a deal was possible up until the eleventh hour.
Today’s it has emerged in the tavern that the player’s club failed to ratify the transfer in time and that has resulted in no new arrivals at Anfield during the winter transfer window.
It wasn’t just an attacking player that Brendan Rodgers was seeking as it was reported that he was in the market for another defender, with the Reds looking decidedly short of numbers following a host of injuries to key defensive players.
Manchester City centre back Micah Richards was reportedly an earlier target for boss Brendan Rodgers on deadline day. However the Citizens had no interest in letting their longest serving player leave with the Etihad Stadium club still active in four different competitions and now Metro indicates that Rodgers had then switched his focus to South Wales.
The paper reports the Reds were also unsuccessful in an deadline day attempt to lure Swansea City defender Chico Flores to Anfield on loan.
Rodgers reportedly return to his old club to make an enquiry about the former Genoa man after failing to land Richards.
But the Swans also had no interest in letting Chico leave the Liberty Stadium, with the 26-year-old thought to remain an integral part of Michael Laudrup’s team.
That has left Reds fans in the bar concerned about their inability to strengthen with Champions League qualification fully on the agenda.
