Liverpool: Fans delighted after Joel Matip injury update

Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that defender Joel Matip has returned to first-team training.
The Cameroonian had picked up a knock in the Reds 1-0 win against Sheffield United in September, which kept him out of their games against Red Bull Salzburg and Leicester City prior to the international break.
However, he has used the last week to recover, and returned to training at Melwood on Tuesday as they prepare for their Premier League fixture against Manchester United.
His return is a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp as he has been one of Liverpool’s stand out players so far this season. In his six appearances in the Premier League so far, Matip is averaging 5.2 clearances per game, 1.8 successful tackles per game and 1.7 successful interceptions per game and has an overall rating of 7.62 (via WhoScored).
He has also been part of a backline which has kept two clean sheets in the league and he has scored one goal which came in their 3-1 win against Arsenal (via Transfermarkt).
Matip has become Klopp’s preferred choice alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-back, and the German now tends to pick him ahead of both Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren.
It would be fair to say that the Liverpool fans are delighted with the news that the former Schalke man is back in training, here is how some of them reacted on Twitter…

Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications! We missed Matip so much. Lovren was “okay” but our defense looking still more vulnerable without Alisson and Matip! Please, please let’s smash United at their ground. Let us make them sack another manager 😏
