Liverpool: Fans disagree over Adam Lallana’s performance in victory at Aston Villa

Liverpool 2-1 victory at Aston Villa was another close call and it will have worried fans that the team with ten wins and one draw isn’t quite as strong as the Premier League table suggests. Liverpool had 25 shots, 10 corners and 74% of possession but they could only scrape an injury-time victory ahead of their mammoth game against Man City next weekend.
City’s win wasn’t reassuring for their fans either, but players like Adam Lallana are splitting opinion on the red side of the title race, with some saying he played well against Villa and some saying he didn’t. The Liverpool Echo rated him 6/10, saying: Asked to do a lot of defensive work in the opening stages and took a while to get going. Better towards half-time and some good forward forays but missed big chance in final quarter.”
On Twitter, fans took more of a decisive view on whether he was good enough for a title-charging team or not. Owner of fansite Anfield Index, @GagsTandon, posted on Twitter how he’d changed his mind on the Englishman’s performance, saying: “I think Lallana will get top presser for the game yesterday. Yep, a load of you will disagree but I’ve just rewatched it and collected and changed my original opinion which was that he was poor. He did pretty well off-ball.”

He did pretty well off-ball.

Some people agreed and replied saying they thought Lallana played well:
He played well in my opinion. He worked hard, passed forward and would be ahead of Hendo for me based on his last two outings. Hendo is desperately out of form and needs to be benched

11 ball recoveries is pretty mental for him. Didn’t expect that

Good to see his efforts recognised. On first watching you couldn’t tell. Thinking about the player he was during Klopp’s first season, your findings are not surprising. I hope he continues to play an important role for the rest of the season.

While others weren’t as convinced regarding the 31-year-old:
He is just too lightweight in the tackle.
That’s really my only opposition to him playing there.
Too flimsy…— Jonathan Husband (@jonnyhusband1) 3 November 2019
Did a job in his unnatural position thought he was pretty poor to be honest but that’s not his game so can’t be to judgmental.

Was at both matches this week. He really struggled to keep pace with the game and looks lightweight.
