Jurgen Klopp faced the press today ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea at Anfield. The game is the biggest of all the third round ties and has been chosen for Sky Sports coverage, however, it’s unlikely that both sides will feature their strongest sides and Klopp has already announced that Simon Mignolet will start in goal over Alisson.

The Reds aren’t exactly delighted to hear that Mignolet will be starting the tie but at the same time it really doesn’t come as a surprise. The Belgian is only going to get game time in the Premier League or Champions League if Alisson picks up an injury and that seems very unlikely. The domestic cups are going to be Mignolet’s chance to play and he’ll have to make them count, starting with tomorrow night.
This season is the 30-year-old’s sixth straight year with the club and he’s played in every competition for the Reds. A lot of fans believed he would be on his way out over the summer but he’s proven them wrong and stuck around at the club and now it looks like Klopp is using him as his number two goalkeeper. If he makes a blunder tomorrow the fans will only say that they knew it was coming and they’re already expecting the worse from the goalkeeper.

The fans aren’t prepared for Mignolet to throw away their 100% start to the season and will be hoping he can be at his brilliant best against Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
