Many Liverpool fans reacted in delight after a journalist confirmed the Reds were working on a deal to sign Lille defender Sven Botman.
The 20-year-old is on the Anfield radar and Jurgen Klopp’s side have opened talks with his agent regarding a possible move to the Premier League champions in January, Duncan Castles told the Transfer Window Podcast.
Botman joined Lille for £7m from Ajax in the summer after failing to make the grade at the Johan Cruyff Arena, and the 6 foot 4 centre-back has gone on to make 23 first-team outings in France.
Should Liverpool sign Sven Botman?
Unsurprisingly, supporters were overjoyed with the news, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez ruled out for a significant amount of time after both sustained serious knee injuries.
Fans react to Botman links
“Hopefully we can get him. Love all our dutch players”
“Probably seen as a potential long term successor to Virgil so more Joe Gomez’s partner”
“If we’re signing a player that ticks all the boxes from a data standpoint, then Botman would be a great buy. This excites me.”
“This guy is quality and a proper bargain”
“This will be a very solid signing. One for the future.”
