Liverpool fans in dreamland after Milner’s man of the match performance

In a team that contains one of the most devasting front trios in world football and the most expensive centre-back in history it really shouldn’t be a 32-year-old who signed for free three years ago who wins the player of the year award. However, if the season ended now James Milner would be taking the prize as he was named man of the match again last night for his display against PSG.

The Liverpool fans are getting a sense of deja vu as it was just a few days ago that the 32-year-old was the best player on the pitch and swooped the man of the match award at Wembley for his part in the Reds 2-1 win over Tottenham. This time out, it was a 3-2 win over PSG but Milner continues to do the business in the big games for his team and Jurgen Klopp will be delighted to have him.

It seems crazy that Milner joined Liverpool for free and whilst Manchester City have plenty of quality in their midfield, the fact they let Milner go must be viewed as a mistake. The Leeds-born midfielder has shown his talent and versatility at Anfield and it looks like he’s destined to win things on Merseyside. He scored his second goal of the season yesterday against the French champions from the penalty spot and it’s hard to see his form dropping off anytime soon.
