The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern think that midfielder Philippe Coutinho is one of the Premier League’s best players…
Since moving to England from Inter Milan, the Brazilian has slowly progressed into a real star for the Reds, proving his worth as Liverpool’s undisputed number 10.
In truth, many in the pub want Jurgen Klopp to ensure that Coutinho will stay at the club long-term – and so recent comments from the player may well concern them. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Barcelona over the last few months, and when questioned on it – as per quotes sourced by the Independent – he was coy in his response. He said: “Talking about this is complicated…I have a contract with my club and it is long”.
Whilst Coutinho didn’t explicitly state that he wants to make the move, he did not deny that he would be interested in it – leaving the fans in the pub concerned. If he truly wasn’t interested in the move, the Brazilian likely would have said as much.
That being said, it is no real surprise that a top European outfit like Barcelona are keen on a move for Coutinho. He has become Liverpool’s figurehead in recent years, becoming deadly both in front of goal and with regards to producing goals. His quick, technical style of play aligns perfectly with the Barcelona philosophy – and our landlord thinks that he is made for a role at the Nou Camp.
Still, Liverpool have done well to tie him down to a long-term contract, and so they won’t be forced to sell against their wishes. That hasn’t stopped the anxiety in the pub, though.
