Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been responding to comments from Steven Gerrard about his former midfield partner, Xabi Alonso, ahead of the pair being reunited on the Anfield turf this Saturday. Gerrard’s comments, whilst speaking to Liverpool’s website, are sure to excite fans as Liverpool Legends play against Bayern Munich Legends on Merseyside this weekend.
Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso struck up a deadly midfield partnership in their time together at Liverpool and were part of Rafa Benitez impressive side that brought the Champions League trophy to Anfield back in 2005. Both of them netted in the incredible comeback against AC Milan in Istanbul 13 years ago, with Gerrard getting the ball rolling with the Reds’ first goal and Alonso bagging the equaliser.
The Liverpool fans propping our bar up have been reminiscing back to the five years that the pair had together between 2004 and 2009 as Liverpool boasted one of the strongest midfield pairings in the country. This weekend will be a big occasion for both the players and the fans, as Alonso and Gerrard will play together one more time. However, Alonso turned out for both Liverpool and Bayern Munich in his illustrious career, meaning he will don both jerseys come Saturday as he plays with, and against, Gerrard at Anfield.
