Liverpool’s display last night was a lot of things. The Reds were calm, composed, controlled and in command as they saw of Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli 1-0 at Anfield to book their place in the Champions League last 16. However, when they saw how Gli Azzurri lined up for the clash, they couldn’t see a way past the Stadio San Paulo faithful on the night.

Napoli boasts some of the best talents in Europe, and a lot of their squad would give some of the current crop of Liverpool players a serious run for their money as first-team starters if they plied their trade on Merseyside. On the night they were unable to get the decisive goal that would have meant Jurgen Klopp’s side needed to net at least three times, but they’re still a quality outfit regardless, and the Kopites were right to be fearful of them.
Liverpool supporters were flocking onto the Twitter account of Napoli’s official English account and there was a collective gulp on Merseyside when the lineup was announced. The likes of Dries Mertens, Marek Hamsik and Lorenzo Insigne struck the Reds with fear going forward, while the task of getting the ball past Kalidou Koulibaly at the other was daunting. It didn’t matter, though, as a single Mo Salah goal saw them through and now the Reds will be looking forward to Monday’s draw.

The Reds were as fearful as anything when they saw the Napoli lineup and you can’t blame them either, even if they were able to sneak a 1-0 past the Italians.
