Getting undone from set-pieces, being cut through with ease on the break and being unable to defend in general became common-place with Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers, even if they were a machine going forward. However, the fans believed those days were behind them until they rocked up at The London Stadium last night.
41' – A big chance for #WHUFC. Rice finds plenty of space from a set-piece but heads just wide.

After Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to weather the early storm of West Ham pressure, they opened the scoring with a dubious Sadio Mane goal, which James Milner was offside for in the build-up. However, after taking the lead, West Ham capitalised on some woeful defending from the visitors and made it 1-1 with a clever free-kick routine that caught the Reds out.
After being undone by one free-kick, though, Klopp’s side failed to learn their lesson and whilst they managed to hold out at 1-1, they continued to give away needless fouls in dangerous areas and looked an absolute shambles at marking them. Declan Rice had a cracking chance to make it 2-1 just minutes before half-time and on another day the Irons would have hammered home their chances to take the lead, and the Kopites were fuming as it happened.
You can see what the Liverpool fans had to say about their side’s soft touch at the back here:
My lord, we look horrendous.

I’d rather have Trent with one leg at this point

The Kopites couldn’t understand why they were so poor at the back yesterday and will be desperate for instant improvements when they face Bournemouth on Saturday.
