Liverpool fans everywhere will be hoping that they can avoid adding any more players to their current injury list. Over the weekend the club have had both Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah return to Melwood after suffering injuries whilst playing for their countries and as Gareth Southgate has confirmed Joe Gomez will be playing against Spain later, the fans aren’t happy.

If Joe Gomez is lost to injury then The Reds will have just Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip left fit as their senior centre-backs. Van Dijk’s injury isn’t a serious one, but it seems to be a recurring one and a couple of weeks on the sidelines will probably do him some good. However, Liverpool fans don’t want to take that chance is Gomez is also out, which means watching England tonight will be a tough one for The Kopites will be praying Gomez comes through fit.
In the build-up to the England Spain clash, Gareth Southgate paid tribute to Gomez and recognised that the young defender is in spectacular form for his club, something that everyone associated with Liverpool will be keen to see continue as they look at the ex-Charlton man as the next big thing at the club. Although he can’t continue his development if he’s in the treatment room and a lot of the supporters would feel a lot more at ease if Southgate opted to leave Gomez on the sidelines later.

Brilliant – not that I’ll be watching, but if I was I’d be wincing at every tackle

Fingers crossed he doesn't get injured

Can we just have everyone retire from international football till the World Cup rolls around?

The Reds are desperate to see Gomez get through the 90 minutes without picking up a knock and will be fuming if he does sustain and injury in Spain.
