Liverpool fans on Twitter in ecstasy over Mane’s squad number of upcoming season

This summer just keeps getting better and better for the Reds. Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alisson Becker and Xherdan Shaqiri have all joined the club and Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino have signed long-term deals. Just when things couldn’t get any better, it’s been confirmed on the Liverpool website that he’ll wear the number 10 shirt this season.

For any other player, this may not seem like such a huge announcement, but in the cases of Mane, it most certainly is. The attacker recently refused to rule out a move to Real Madrid, and though those rumours have quietened down, it seems unlikely that he would leave after switching shirt numbers.

Furthermore, perhaps his decision to change shirt numbers could indicate that the Reds may not be looking to replace Coutinho after all, given that the natural playmaker typically opts for the number 10 shirt.

Mane was just one-third of Liverpool’s deadly front line that tore up defences in the Premier League and the Champions League last season and now it looks like he’ll be following in the footsteps of some of Liverpool’s greatest ever players by donning the number 10 shirt. The likes of Michael Owen, John Barnes and Steve McManaman have all worn the shirt before and now Mane is the next line to dazzle fans in the jersey.

No other club is better placed to win the league than the Kopites at the moment and despite many people backing Man City to retain the crown, it looks like Jurgen Klopp’s men, led by Mane, Salah and Firmino, may to be too much to handle between August and May. Mane, reinvigorated by his change in shirt number, is likely to be eager to improve on what was a good season last year.

You can read the fans’ thoughts on Mane’s new number below. It’s fair to say that many of them are feeling very very happy indeed:

As you can see, the fans are all buzzing over the Mane news and will be even more excited when he signs his new deal.
