Georginio Wijnaldum has played a huge role in Liverpool’s impressive start to the season despite the fact that over the summer a lot of fans believed he’d struggle to get into the starting lineup. However, the Dutchman has been flying and his opener against Tottenham yesterday was a moment that the fans were keen to savour.

After a bizarre header back into the danger area from Christian Eriksen had gone out for a corner, the Reds piled men into the box in the hope of finding a goal just before half-time. Michel Vorm came out to try and claim the corner but when Virgil van Dijk and Jan Vertonghen went up in front of him he could only flap at the ball, leaving Wijnaldum with a fairly routine header that was given with the help of goal-line technology.
This goal for Wijnaldum ended what was a strange stat as the ex-Newcastle man’s previous 18 Premier League goals had all come at home. However, the header against Tottenham meant he’d ended that streak and finally scored on the road for the Reds. The Kopites will be keen to see more from their midfielder as the season draws on but getting off to a good start with some impressive performances and a goal is always a good step for the classy midfielder.
