Liverpool fans on Twitter more than ready to trust Masterson and Phillips during injury crisis

Liverpool face a tough run of festive games over the next few weeks. The Reds have five games between now and January 3rd, with three of those coming against Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, so naturally, you can understand the worries as Jurgen Klopp has just two senior centre-backs fit and available, although the fans are more than ready to blood the youth.

Joe Gomez suffered a fractured leg when he was cut down by a Ben Mee challenge against Burnley last week, whilst Joel Matip now faces six weeks out after suffering a broken collarbone. That leaves the Reds with just Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren who can step up, although the fans have already been discussing who else they will want to see, and have agreed that both Conor Masterson and Nat Phillips are ready to cut it in the senior side.

It’s unlikely that Klopp would be willing to throw one of the Liverpool youngsters into a huge Premier League clash, and he’d probably opt to play someone like Fabinho in the centre of his defence, but the Kopites have given their vote of confidence to the two young defenders and would love to see Klopp test them in the big games. After seeing the Trent Alexander-Arnold come through the way he has done, it’s fair to say the fans are just keen to see what else their academy men can do.

You can read the Reds’ verdict on both Masterson and Phillips here:

The fans are more than happy to test their youngsters if needed and have no fears ahead of their tough Christmas period.
