Liverpool fans on Twitter want to see van Dijk as their captain

Yesterday, Liverpool fans were left bored as their side fought their way to yet another win, albeit a less entertaining one. A first-half goal from Mo Salah was enough to secure The Reds all three points, although, when James Milner was subbed with just over ten minutes to play, the fans were delighted as they saw Virgil van Dijk put on the captain’s armband.

As per usual, van Dijk was a rock at the back. Barring the penalty he gave away against Manchester City the Dutch defender is yet to put a foot wrong. Against Huddersfield, he was a man that could not be beaten and the fans are starting to wonder if he has been the missing piece to the puzzle all along. Having him at the back for a full season can only bring good things and a lot of the Reds believe that this can be their year now he’s there.

The next step with van Dijk is the captaincy. The 27-year-old captains his country and international level and it’s clear that he has all the attributes to lead by example with the armband. This season has seen him given it a couple of times when the likes of Jordan Henderson and Milner have been off the pitch, but the fans want to see more and would love for their colossal defender to be handed the captaincy on a more full-time basis.

The fans want van Dijk as their captain and will be keen to see him make the armband his own in the coming weeks.
