Liverpool fans on Twitter were all begging for Keita to replace Henderson yesterday

Jordan Henderson is the Liverpool captain, but that doesn’t mean he’s the most popular man at Anfield. The England international often comes in for abuse from his own fans for his subpar performances, and whilst yesterday wasn’t the worst he’s ever been, the Reds were all desperate to see him hooked for Naby Keita at half-time at Brighton.

It’s not too hard to see why. The 28-year-old has developed a reputation for failing to advance the play forward and gets labelled a crab by the Reds for his sideways passing. Yesterday was again one of those games and with Liverpool struggling to create much at all, the fans were crying out for someone like Naby Keita, who would be prepared to take the game to Brighton with some more directness.

All that matters is that Liverpool won the game at the Amex Stadium and they’ll now be looking ahead to their next clash in the Premier League, a home clash with Crystal Palace, where they’ll be desperate to pick up another three points. The fans, though, will hope that Henderson plays no part in that game as they’ll be looking to play a much quicker tempo at Anfield, and their captain will only hinder that.

The Kopites aren’t Henderson’s biggest fans and will hope he’s dropped to the bench for Palace next weekend.
