Liverpool have had some standout stars this season already. Sadio Mane shone in August whilst James Milner, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk haven’t let their levels slip. Georginio Wijnaldum has gone under the radar with some superb displays too, but in September it was Daniel Sturridge who conquered all and the England striker has been rewarded with this award by the club.

If you’d have told a Liverpool fan that Daniel Sturridge would be their club’s player of the month for September 2018 and that Jurgen Klopp would be using the striker as a utility option to good effect, they’d probably have laughed at you. Sturridge’s Liverpool career had looked dead and buried for a long time until he stepped up his game in pre-season and gave Klopp something to think about, but now it looks like his work has paid off.
Sturridge has managed to bag himself a healthy return of four goals in nine appearances this season, however, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench, Sturridge is averaging a goal every 51 minutes for his club (that is according to the good people over at Transfermarkt), a record that the best strikers in the world would be proud of. This Saturday could see Klopp give Sturridge a start at Huddersfield and if he grabs another couple of goals it could see Roberto Firmino struggle to get back into this strong Anfield side.

Having you back and fit is just like a new signing. Glad you've been recognised for your contribution so far this season. A fully fit and on form Daniel Sturridge will certainly give Klopp a selection headache. #YNWA

The Reds will be loving Sturridge’s new form and will be keen to see him continuing scoring goals and giving Klopp selection headaches.
